Beady baby jack-o-lantern
We LOVE making beady babies in our OT sessions. These crafts are great for praxis, sequencing, and fine motor dexterity. This can be a tricky activity for some kids, so you may need to provide extra support and work together to make the jack-o-lantern. Sneaky snacky squirrel
Another favorite here at the clinic! This simple board game supports fine motor skills and praxis. It’s also super cute! You can purchase it on Amazon: https://a.co/d/0f35y2By
Pumpkin patch
Did you know going to the pumpkin patch can support your child’s therapy goals? The pumpkin patch provides a sensory rich experience including walking on uneven or muddy terrain, opportunity for tactile play, and opportunity for heavy work as they carry their pumpkin! Some pumpkin patches also offer carnival type games which can support visual motor and visual targeting. Check out Tanaka Farms, River Street, and local fall festivals.
Seasonal baking
Involving your child in cooking and baking is not only special for them, but also gives opportunity for them to work on their praxis and sequencing skills (and maybe tactile processing is things get a little messy!). There are so many fun Fall recipes out there but here is a simple one for a pumpkin mug cake: Easy Pumpkin Mug Cake - Tastes Better From Scratch.
Fall visual motor
There are lots of free visual motor activities you can find online. Fall themed dot to dots, hidden pictures, mazes, and word searches will support your child’s visual motor, visual scanning, and handwriting skills!
